Access to Skull Rock Nature Trail and the Cholla Cactus Garden at golden hour — one of the most photographed spots in the park.

Highlights

Cottonwood Spring, Lost Palms Oasis, Mastodon Peak

The quietest entrance. Lost Palms Oasis is a 7.5-mile round trip to a hidden grove of fan palms — worth the drive.

From Los Angeles: SaguaroHaus is approximately 2.5 hours from downtown LA via I-10 E. The drive is straightforward — no mountain passes, no toll roads. We recommend arriving before sunset on your first day.

Best hikes near SaguaroHaus

The park has over 800 miles of trails. These are the ones worth prioritizing — a mix of short loops for casual mornings and longer routes for those who want to earn the view.

Hidden Valley Loop

Easy

A flat loop through a natural rock enclosure. The quintessential Joshua Tree hike — accessible, beautiful, and never gets old.

Barker Dam

Easy

A short loop to a historic cattle ranching dam. Often has water and wildlife. Native American petroglyphs nearby.

Ryan Mountain

Moderate
3 miles2–3 hrs

The best panoramic view in the park. 1,000 ft elevation gain. Worth every step — you can see four mountain ranges from the summit.

Cap Rock

Easy

A flat loop around one of the park's most iconic rock formations. Great for photography at golden hour.

Skull Rock Nature Trail

Easy
1.7 miles1 hr

Passes the famous Skull Rock formation. Interpretive signs explain desert geology and ecology. Good for families.

Lost Horse Mine

Moderate
4 miles2–3 hrs

A historic gold mine from the 1890s. The trail offers sweeping valley views and is one of the more interesting cultural hikes in the park.
