SaguaroHaus

Joshua Tree, CA

Your base camp

Before you go anywhere, make coffee here first. The GE Café espresso setup is stocked and ready. Drink it on the teak deck while the desert warms up. This is the best cup you'll have all weekend.

Morning

Joshua Tree Coffee Company

61738 Twentynine Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree

Opens 7am

The original. A converted space on Twentynine Palms Highway with a serious espresso program and a rotating single-origin pour-over menu. The owners know their supply chain. Arrive early — the pastries go fast.

Frontier Café

Yucca Valley

Cash-friendly

Tucked into Yucca Valley, this is where the locals go. The vibe is unhurried, the coffee is strong, and the outdoor seating looks out at the mountains. Order the cortado and stay longer than you planned.

Crossroads Café

61715 Twentynine Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree

Opens 7am daily

A Joshua Tree institution. The coffee is good but the scene is better — a rotating cast of artists, climbers, and people who moved here from somewhere more expensive. The breakfast burrito is mandatory.

Afternoon

La Copine

848 Old Woman Springs Rd, Flamingo Heights

Reservations recommended

Not primarily a coffee destination, but the afternoon espresso here — served in the golden light of their converted farmhouse dining room — is one of the best experiences in the desert. Call ahead; hours vary seasonally.

Pappy & Harriet's

53688 Pioneertown Rd, Pioneertown

Open Thu–Sun

Order a coffee at the bar and sit outside. The afternoon light hits the San Bernardino mountains behind the stage and it's one of those moments you'll remember. The coffee is secondary. The atmosphere is not.
